The Colour Only Platinum Wears
The ice-blue dial is the most quietly exclusive signal in watchmaking. Rolex reserves this shade for platinum alone — no gold or steel model has ever carried it. Anyone who recognises the colour already knows what the case is made of, without a word being said.
Against that pale blue sit applied Roman numerals and the day displayed in full at twelve o'clock, a combination that has defined the Day-Date since 1956. The result reads as restraint rather than display, which is precisely the point.
950 Platinum, Fluted
The 40 mm case is machined from 950 platinum, a metal roughly twice as dense as steel and considerably harder to work. You feel that density the moment the watch settles on the wrist — it carries a weight nothing else replicates.
The fluted bezel, traditionally a signature of gold Rolex models, appears here in platinum: the flutes catch light in sharp vertical lines against the soft satin of the case flanks.
Calibre 3255
Inside runs the Calibre 3255, Rolex's flagship movement, carrying the Chronergy escapement and a paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring. It is certified as a Superlative Chronometer, held to a precision of −2/+2 seconds per day — twice the standard demanded by COSC.
The barrel architecture delivers a 70-hour power reserve, enough to leave the watch resting from Friday evening to Monday morning and find it still running, still accurate.
The President Bracelet
Created in 1956 for this very model, the President bracelet takes its name from the wrists that made it famous. Its semi-circular three-piece links are finished in solid platinum and close on a concealed Crownclasp that disappears entirely into the design.
Water resistant to 100 metres and sealed by the Twinlock crown, the Day-Date 40 is built to be worn daily — not preserved. It arrives with premium presentation packaging and international warranty.
